I will admit there are many days where getting through the day takes about all the energy I have. Getting up, ready for the day, long day at work, not to mention those other things in life that need to be taken care of. If I’m being honest, it is more common than not that I miss checking things off my daily “to do” list. Does anyone else have this problem? A few days like this pile up easily and I find myself just trying to survive the daily grind and obsessing over my own challenges. To be really real, I can have thoughts of wishing that someone else would make my life better. Wishing others would understand what I’m going through, see my plight, blah, blah, blah. Nauseating, I know, but I’m keepin’ it real!
Lately, I have been hearing a lot of little whisperings that urge me to approach my day a bit differently. I’m not talking about a “Polyanna” mentality, a “pie in the sky” philosophy or even the ole’ “pay it forward” trend. I’ve decided to participate in a little intentional experimentation with my days. I’m wondering if you may want to join me?
Consider with me, how different our daily lives would be if we purposefully looked for ways to bless and encourage others? If we took it upon ourselves to intentionally speak an encouraging truth, lend a hand, give a hug or send a note. What if when you woke up in the morning, you purposed in your mind and heart to look for how you could lighten anothers load and breathe some life into theirs? What if we could get beyond just trying to survive our daily schedules and obsessing over our own problems?
How about you? Have you ever been the recipient of one of these simple gifts? A word spoken right when you felt like giving up, a hug when you hadn’t had one for several days, a little gift just cause someone was thinking of you, someone let’s you know they see greatness in you and you start to consider the possibilities. I can tell you receiving one of these gifts can feel like a cup of cool refreshing water in a dry desert land. I received one myself just a few days ago, when I got a text from my fitness trainer that said, “I BELIEVE IN YOU…now it is your turn!” It probably took her about 30 seconds to send, but meant a GREAT deal to me.
It really is simple, the biggest hurdle is getting over yourself. I said it, I don’t like to hear it, but sometimes I need to! Life isn’t about me and my struggles are momentary and they pale in comparison to many around me. Ohhh, don’t get me wrong, they are real and I can grow weary, but that is why God gave us each other. For me, it’s meant buying a coffee for the stranger in the drive thru line behind me. It’s been telling the person who is stepping out in using there talents that they truly have a gift and to keep exercising it. It means a note in the mail to let her know she means a lot to me. It’s a fb message to tell you, “you’re loved”.
Imagine the hope, love, joy and life you can spread to those around you, if you will only get over you and purpose in your heart to show love in action. Tomorrow is a new day, what are you going to do with it?
That third paragraph speaks volumes, Denise.
