#ChristmasIsOverrated

I promise I’m not trying to be a Grinch here, but as I look around, I’m not thinkin’ this Christmas thing is all it’s touted to be. It’s supposed to be holly and jolly, merry and bright, but from where I sit there are a good many around me who aren’t feeling a whole lot of Christmas cheer.

You see this is the thing I’ve noticed about Christmas, it amplifies the hurt and struggle we may feel on any given day by at least ten fold! Continue reading “#ChristmasIsOverrated”

God Knows I’m Not Superwoman

I’m thinking that if you are a human living here on earth, you have probably felt a bit overwhelmed with life a time or two?  That feeling where your body is done, but your feet haven’t crossed the finish line.  That feeling that is similar to banging your head against a wall, hoping for change to come and all you have is a headache.  When life is squeezing you from every side and you’re hoping for a break through NOT a break down!  Can anyone relate?  Please say, yes 🙂

I’m not sure how you respond, when life seems to be dealing a bad hand, but I know how I do.  I tend to become turtle like.  I tuck my head inside my shell, I withdraw, become quiet, isolate and hunker down for survival sake.  Others may choose an opposite route, they share their woes as often and freely as they have the opportunity, they’ll fb post it, tweet it, shout it from a mountain top, hoping the venting will help, hoping they might find someone who has the magic pill for what ails them.  I’m pretty sure, neither approach is optimal and I have felt God whispering to me lately about how I’m carrying the load. Glimpses of God’s Heart

popMe & my Pops ❤

The title “father” conjures up many emotions in people. We all have one, although some of us may have never known them, maybe we did, but it was a less than positive relationship. Some of us miss fathers that are no longer here and some may be a father themselves and have regrets about the job they’ve done. Even the best father in the crowd has days when he messes up and wishes he had remained patient, talked softer or listened closer. Despite each of our relationships with our earthly fathers we have a Heavenly Father who loves us perfectly, who is crazy about us despite our imperfections, who never gives up or runs out on us. Book Review-How To Love Your Crazy Family

Howtoloveyourcrazyfamily

Just finished a wonderful read, How to Love Your Crazy Family by Angela Howard. You may say, how does Angela know my family? O.k., maybe that’s what I thought.

First of all, let me say that if you live, breathe and interact with other human beings, you will benefit from this book. If you desire to be a better, wife, husband, sister, brother, father, mother, man, woman, friend, this book is for you!  This author has a wonderful way of identifying with you as a reader and disarming your ability to have any defensiveness as she sweetly pummels you with a truth that is undeniable. (A couple of times in the book, I thought perhaps she had somehow obtained a copy of my journal?  I’m still looking into that!) Hold On, Sunday’s Comin’!

It is impossible for me to truly fathom what it was like for those close to Jesus, what they went through on that Friday so many years ago. The anguish, the heartache, the sorrow, the hopelessness. Loss so deep that it just sits on you, it’s in your bones and you wonder how, or if its even possible to go on. Their son, their friend, their teacher, their Savior gone. Gone, after being tortured and mocked in front of crowds of people. Gone and they did not realize what Sunday would bring. Continue reading “Hold On, Sunday’s Comin’!”

Take Another Step

The Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu says, ” the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. ”  It takes great courage to take that first step, to embark on a new adventure where the destination is not guaranteed, but you know what else takes a whole lot of chutzpah? Continuing on the journey when you’re tired, when you’re discouraged, when you’re fearful, when you doubt, when you messed up, when you wonder if all the hard work will pay off.  Any of this sound familiar? Somebody Special

Everyone has an appointed time and none of us knows when the day will be. Yesterday was that day for somebody very special. His last breath takes the breath away from so many that love him and will miss him so.

Each of us created unique, there is no other, you, me or he and the loss leaves a hole.  Life is no longer the same and hearts ache. In thinking about this dear man since hearing of his passing, I’ve been asking myself, “who now will make everyone feel like they are that special someone?” He did so with ease, with each exchange, you were his focus.  He was a hugger, he was a joker, a kidder, a tease.  He had time for people, he lived to make you smile, even better, laugh 🙂 He was never too busy for the exchange and no person was beneath him. He was accepting and cared about each person with a genuine warmth and depth.

His life challenges me to make others feel, how he made me and so many feel; loved and special.  You see he was indeed somebody special who made those around him feel like somebody special and friends that is something very special.

Some Call It Coffee, I Call It Love In A Cup

I’m a coffee lover, which comes naturally being from the Great Pacific Northwest.  Some may say I’m a “coffee snob” and I’m alright with that too.  The taste of a good cup of coffee, the smell,  like a bit of fresh ground heaven, aahhh…it’s good for my very soul 🙂  There, however, is more to my love of coffee than the mere pleasing of the senses.  I think it’s what happens during the enjoyment of the cup of brew that I truly love.  It’s the whole coffee experience if you will. I’m In Love!

Falling in love is hands down the best thing I’ve ever done! If the truth be told, I think I’m falling more in love every day 🙂     Oh, How I love Him, let me count the ways…

  • There is not a day that goes by that He doesn’t do something to show me He is thinking of me.
  • He loved me even when I didn’t believe I was loveable and saw beauty in me that I was blind to.
  • He encourages me and talks so tenderly.
  • He is patient and gentle with me and yet challenges me to be better.
  • I feel so protected in His arms and my heart is safe in His embrace.
  • He knows me so well and knows exactly how to speak to my heart.
  • He has come to my rescue countless times.
  • He is strong yet gentle and I simply can’t get enough of Him!
  • One of the sweetest things He does, is sing songs to me while I sleep.
  • In this crazy, sometimes scary world, He is my safe place to fall.

I could go on, but let it suffice to say, He is simply AMAZING in every way!  Really, what kind of man would go to such extremes to win my heart?  Jesus, I am so in love with you ❤

More Than A Feeling

What is the most lavish thing anyone has ever done for you that made you truly feel loved? Maybe lavish is the wrong word, no flash mob is required and no romantic proposal displayed on a jumbotron is necessary. What about the most thoughtful thing someone has done for you that really let you know you were special to them?

My sister once decorated a mason jar and hand wrote on individual slips of paper, her favorite memories about the two of us throughout the years.  One memory on each little note, a jar full of memories shared between sisters.  That gift made me feel so special and loved, not because it was expensive or especially beautiful to behold, but because she thought about me and took the time to let me know.  By giving me that jar full of goodness, she was telling me that our times together were important and memorable to her.  Important enough that she took the time to think about it and show me how she felt.  Pretty special, if you ask me!
